Tortola vs. St. John, USVI. My husband and I are having a hard time deciding between staying on Tortola or St. John's ( USVI) for our vacation. We plan on spending about a week in May (to avoid hurricane season and hopefully some out-of-school crowds). There are a few rules...no fishing in swimming zones, no fishing at Jumbie and Trunk, and a few spiecies that you can not keep like Nassau and Goliath grouper.I'd say Friis Bay or all the way out to Privateer Bay. I appreciate when rental owners and resorts include drone footage on their sites. Drones over public areas doing aerial photography don't bother me all that much, if they keep to respectful heights and distances.If the roads are dry, all the North Shore beaches can be accessed with a non-4WD. You'll just be limited in being able to use some of the side of the road parking where the drop offs can be significant. Lots of breeze there to keep bugs off, but still a lot of mosquitoes and no-see ums. We took a spray this year called Sawyers Insect Repellant with 20% picaridin and had fewer bites.
